SitoLub EU project kickoff

On the 18th and 19th of January, the kick-off meeting for the SiToLub project (GA:101138807) was held in Spain hosted by its coordinator Fundaciรณn Tekniker. This meeting marked the commencement of an ambitious 4-year long initiative aimed at revolutionizing lubricant technology.

SiToLub: Simulation Tools for the design of safe and sustainable Lubricants

The SiToLub project aims to pioneer the development of a digital tool/platform for the Safe and Sustainable by Design formulation of new lubricants. This innovative system will provide comprehensive assessment of safety and sustainability factors, including toxicity to humans, ecotoxicity to the environment, and workers’ risk. Leveraging molecular dynamic models developed by project partners, the safety assessment component will be robust and scientifically grounded.

The SiToLub project will synergize with existing European initiatives such as i-TRIBOMAT: The European Tribology Centre, OntoCommons, and IRISS to foster collaboration, standardize data documentation, and accelerate the transition to Safe-and-Sustainable-by-design materials, products, and processes. By combining technical evaluation, prediction models supported by artificial intelligence, and Life-Cycle Analysis methodologies, the project aims to provide holistic guidance for designing ecofluids (coolants, greases, oils) with clear consideration of their physico-chemical properties and tribological performance. This forward-thinking approach underscores the project’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and environmental responsibility in the lubricant industry.
