Simulation Tools for the design of Safe and Sustainable Lubricants

Programme
Horizon Europe · GA 101138807
Duration
January 2024 – June 2028 (54 months)
Our role
Partner — tribological testing and data infrastructure; the project’s models are integrated into the i-TRIBOMAT platform

A digital platform for formulating lubricants under the Safe and Sustainable by Design approach. Molecular models assess toxicity, ecotoxicity and worker risk, while tribological models predict friction, energy consumption, material durability and fluid degradation. Coordinated by Fundación Tekniker with 12 partners across 7 countries.

Smart Assistant for Additive Manufacturing

Programme
FFG · Ressourcenwende 2025 · FTI-Initiativen 2025 (KLWPT 24/26)
Duration
May 2026 – April 2029 (36 months)
Our role
Partner — provider of the tribological database that trains and feeds the project’s AI assistant

A smart assistant for metal additive manufacturing, aimed at the repair and on-demand production of spare parts for critical infrastructure. The project combines process optimisation with decision support so that operators can determine when a component can be repaired or reprinted rather than replaced. Industry partners include Wiener Netze and the Competence Center 3D-Druck of Wiener Stadtwerke.

Modelling of spur gears: geometry and elastohydrodynamic lubrication

Programme
Ajut Llavor · Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya
Duration
2026
Our role
Application development and deployment on the Tribology Universe platform

Engineering applications that model spur gear contact, covering both the tooth geometry and the elastohydrodynamic lubrication film that separates the flanks. Everything runs in the browser with no installation. Developed with partners at UPC. The first application, covering dry spur gear contact, is already available.

The Tribology Challenge

Open inter-laboratory round robin

Programme
i-TRIBOMAT initiative
Duration
Ongoing, open to new participants
Our role
Initiator and coordinator

Testing facilities across Europe run the same tribological test and compare results. The aim is to quantify how far measurements vary between laboratories, and turn that into harmonised, reproducible testing procedures.
